It is a 17th century work by the Cretan hagiographer Victor. Saint Catherine is depicted seated on a throne, in princely robes, surrounded by her books - an indication of her wisdom and education. She is holding a palm branch (symbol of the Martyr) and the cross with the Crucifix, while next to her is the great wheel of martyrdom. The original icon is exhibited in the Byzantine Museum of Athens.
